Happy Halloween!

Last week the Seidlers/Simpsons headed into South Bend for some tricks or treats. Lori spent a lot of time with her sewing machine to transform us into the Simpsons, and the results were awesome. (One kid was so enthralled by Lori’s “hair” that he couldn’t even say “Trick or Treat.”)

We had a really good time seeing friends and family – click the photo to see the slideshow!

Go Irish!

Fall brings football, and with it the prospect of spending hours watching your favorite team absolutely blow it. Mathias has become acquainted with the new reality of Notre Dame football at an early age.

Here he and dad model the 2010 shirts (thoughtfully picked up by mom) before watching the Irish fall short against Michigan. (They’re one of three teams, along with Miami and USC, that James’ Uncle Frank told him it was ok to boo ages ago.)

In addition to hanging around the living room with dad for a couple games, Mathias has also been in to South Bend to tailgate at Uncle Mike’s for the Purdue and Western Michigan games. We had lots of fun (and the team even won those two…maybe he’s a good luck charm).

The Power of Polka

We dropped by our neighborhood’s Octoberfest about a month ago, and Lori took the opportunity to dance with her schnitzel. They’ve practiced with some polka records at home, so the little guy gets a big smile while swaying with his mama.

Horner Park

James has been lucky enough to arrange to work from home from Mondays, which gives him the ability to knock out big chunks of copy without the distractions of the office. It also gives him the opportunity to go for walks with Mathias and Lori during lunch!

For these photos, taken in late August, we’ve strapped on the Baby Bjorn and gone to explore nearby Horner Park.

Thing One and Thing Two

When Aunt Carol, Andy and Adam were in town, they dropped off some matching Dr. Seuss gear for James and Mathias.

Not sure how I became Thing 2, since I was clearly born first.

At the rate he's growing, this will fit in a month.

He can manage to look cute even when surrounded by enormous, hairy arms.

Fahey Fashion Show

Mathias and mom went into South Bend in August to meet up with the Fahey ladies (James’ mom’s family). Mathias spent the day in grandma’s arms while the women looked through the finest fashions of the 1970s.

Aunt Tess says hello to her favorite grandnephew.

The dude catches a quick nap on Aunt Tess' bed.

Grandma ended up watching Mathias that night–his first night away from mom–as Lori and Aunt Sara went up to Michigan for a friend’s party. (Dad was going to a Cubs game.) They had lots of fun. When Lori came back, everyone but grandma was taking a little nap.

A Typical Workday

Lori shares a slice of the home office. (This is from summer, back when fans were needed and Mathias would actually sleep in the computer room!).

Instilling Our Values

One of the fun things about having a kid – especially a helpless baby – is that you can impress on them the things you enjoy most, and there’s nothing they can do about it! You can, say, make him wear a Ramones onesie (which was thoughtfully purchased by James’ Proto Punk Ensemble guitarmates).

He looks a little startled by the power of punk.

But he soon settles down with Lester.

Lester

Aunt Carol, Andy and Adam brought Mathias a little “Cat in the Hat” doll as a gift, and it’s become the first toy he’s really taken to. Here are a couple unposed photos of him snuggling and snoozing with “Lester.”
